About us

East Dorset Mencap operates locally to enable the values, choice, opportunity and respect for our members, families and carers and all people with learning disabilities. We look to enhance quality of life and enable opportunities wherever we are able.

We help families in the local community by awarding grants to help towards respite care, be it for a break or to join a weekly club. As well as grants, we also offer two Saturday clubs, ‘Poppets’ for children with learning disabilities and ‘Senior Club’ for adults with disabilities. Both these clubs provide respite for parents and our members to enjoy various activities including arts, crafts, music, games, cooking and much more.

We also provide grants to Artz+, a local Dorset organisation which provides school holiday arts and sports events for children with additional needs and their families.
